The Nature of God

Why it matters?

To understand God is to understand ourselves and where we sit in the universe. He is the reference point by which all things are measured and judged. In sailing without a reference point in the sky, you can’t know where you are or how to navigate to where you want to go. In life, without God as a reference point, you will wander about being tossed to and fro, not knowing where you are, how you got there, or where you are going.

Characteristics of God

God is holy (perfect, set apart)

His ways are above our ways

He does not waver

God is love

God didn’t “create” Love; God is the definition of Love.

Human evil does not taint God’s love

It is tempting to imbue a human understanding of ‘love’ to God, and therefore, when our definition of love falls short, we impugn God.

God is omnipresent (everywhere), omnipotent (all-powerful), omniscient (all-knowing)

God desires us

He walked in the garden with Adam and Eve

He pursues us:

He seeks connection:

He paid for us:
